My name is Linda Book and lam your Republican candidate for the 38th Legislative District.
- I have lived in Whitehall Borough most of my 63 years. I attended St. Gabriel of the Sorrowful Virgin,
- Whitehall Junior High and Baldwin High School. l joined the United States Army upon my 1974 graduation and served 2years on Active Duty, stationed in Mannheim, Germany. l worked as a communications lineman and was Honorably Discharged in 1976, having been awarded the Army Commendation Medal for meritorious service.
- I attended Point Park College studying Journalism/Communications with a minor in Political Science. I also attended Robert Morris College studying for the Paralegal Certificate. ln 1981 I earned my Private Pilot License at the Allegheny County Airport (Steel City Aviation) located in West Mifflin.
- l joined the Whitehall Borough Republican Committee in the'1980s. l worked on numerous campaigns and was asked to run as a candidate forWhitehall Borough Council in 2001. Due to the great example my father, former PA State Representative Raymond T. Book, set for me, I am honored to have been elected five times to serve our Whitehall residents. I
- have also served on numerous committees throughout the years but since 2013, I have served on the Board of Trustees of the Pennsylvania State Association of Boroughs (PSAB). Also since 2013, I have served on the Board of Directors of the Allegheny County Boroughs Association and, in December 2019, I was very pleased to have been elected to the PSAB Board of Directors.
- Being a proud veteran, I initiated the Whitehall Borough Annual Memorial Day Ceremony in 2004; I initiated the Veterans Day Ceremony in 2005; and along with Whitehall Residents began the Military Banner program, honoring our veterans with posters of their military photo and citations. As a member of the Whitehall Lions Club, I found them to be a most dedicated service organization as they have taken on the task to direct the day to day operations of the Military Banner program. The LEARN (Library Easy Access for Residents in Need) Bus is also another one of my proudest achievements. I initiated this program my first month on Whitehall Council as I recognized the need to embrace the international community of folks who came to live in our Borough. With the diligent assistance of our Whitehall Library staff and local businesses and ihe Friends of The Whitehall Library, this program assists parents, teens and children of all ages to expedite their learning process not only in the English language but adjusting to American culture.
- I have also served as a Greater Pittsburgh Literacy Council (GPLC) tutor with various students since 1994 when I first earned my Tutor Certificate.
- l am proud to say in2004 my LEARN Bus program earned the Marietta King Award for Best Practices in Education, presented in Harrisburg.
- Today I work as a paralegal at the law firm of Willman & Silvaggio.
- My passion for serving has only grown throughout the years and I look forward to having the opportunity to serve YOU as your 38th District Legislator in our Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
